And now for something a little different… A couple of weeks ago we were approached by Tracy Mendy, Creative Director at Academy of Glam. Academy of Glam is a school for make-up artistry that focuses on positive transformation of mind, body, and spirit. Aspiring make-up artists are assigned special projects, and then have their work photographed by professionals so that they can learn from the results. Seeing as we are special in all things wedding photography related, Tracy asked us if we would be interested in photographing models who the students of AOG had been assigned to do bridal make-up on. But there was a catch… she didn’t want just traditional bridal portraiture. This was an opportunity for something really special and unique that would be fun and exciting for everyone involved, because a television crew would be there filming the shoot as part of reality show pilot about Academy of Glam. No problem! We’re not exactly known for “traditional” anyway ;-). We decided that since we had the unusual circumstance of working with multiple brides during a single session, we wanted to have a unifying theme. However, it was important for us to achieve distinctly different imagery for each of them. And, seeing as we did not have the pressure of a wedding day, nor did we have to worry too much about the dresses getting a little dirty… a couture session seemed like the way to go. Drawing on the classical elements of greek mythology, we chose to have each model represent a different element. Earth, Air, Water, and Fire. The shoot was incredible. The make-up artists did a beautiful job of applying traditional bridal make-up to each face, then we enhanced the traditional make-up just a bit to fit with the element. Each model did a fantastic job working in difficult conditions, (I mean, really- we set the ground on FIRE, and asked someone to stand in the middle of it!) and she looked stunning doing it. Special thanks to Keegan Hitchcock for the phenomenal body and dress paint for our earth element, and to Tony Annese for being a great assistant/tree climbing water pourer/leaf blower/fire starter. As much as we love the images posted below, we really can’t wait to see some of the behind the scenes shots. LOL! Enjoy!
